Our History

“Eat local, drink local” has become a mantra of both quality and sustainability among foodies and oenophiles, and nowhere is this more easily and more enjoyably put into practice than the Vintage Virginia Wine Festival. In it’s 31st incarnation, this cornerstone event has grown from its early beginnings in 1982 into an opportunity to taste from nearly half of Virginia’s homegrown wineries, from the oldest and the largest to the smallest boutiques and exciting new players.  A Virginia Wineries Association event, Vintage Virginia is promoted and produced by Virginia’s premier event company, Across-the-Way Productions, dedicated to the art of the outdoor festival.

American Wine

American wine production first started in 17th century Virginia, a state known then, as now, for it’s natural beauty, historic battlefields, and proximity to Washington politics, so it’s not surprising that, 400 years later, it has become a top contender in modern wine-making and production. Currently ranked as the 5th largest wine producing state in the US, Virginia was also named one of the top 10 wine travel destinations for 2012, by Wine Enthusiast magazine, adding to a growing list of awards and accolades, and alongside such historic wine giants as Italy, Spain, New Zealand, California and France.
